For my 2nd health care topic, I chose to explore how Obamacare will effect the health care professionals. As someone who aspires to go into the medical field, I'm surprised I haven't looked more into this before. The issue most doctors seem concerned about is that they will be subject to a lot more government regulation. They're going to have to be dependent on unreliable government reimbursement for their medical services. This is leading many doctors to consider no longer accepting government health programs.
I also learned Obamacare, or any kind of socialized medicine will cause the salaries of doctors to drop. This is terrible because with medical school being so expensive, doctors usually need that high salary to pay off their debts/loans. This is frustrating to me. Although money is not a sole reason to enter the medical field, having a comfortable salary is definitely something that is expected. I don't think we should value the people responsible for saving lives any less than we do now.
Given the high cost of education and, in many states, liability insurance, it seems like the impact on doctors' salaries would definitely be a major topic of concern for people already in the field, as well as those who are considering entering it.
ReplyDeleteI like the view you took in this post about health care, because I would not have thought to think about how it would affect people in the medical fields. Medical school is indeed expensive, and people look forward to the salary they will be making if they become a successful doctor (most times). Having that salary drop would certainly impact the amount of people who enter medical school. We need doctors in the world and nurses so healthcare can exists, and if there is not enough money for people to recieve the proper education to become a doctor or nurse we have a problem. This is something that the government needs to worry about, which they may already, and something that should be acknowledged. We do not want to lose health care and our economy as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree for all the work and hundreds of thousands of dollars medical students put into their careers. Doctors should get paid the amount of money they do. But when they recover their losses from medical school I believe they should be able to donate some of their services to free clinics and give some free services to those who need it. Maybe just to children who can not help the predicaments they get in. Im pretty sure the oath the doctors take says they must treat every person(s) that they can whether they pay or not. Would You agree/disagree?
