Political Issues I care about

Over the past couple years, I've really taken an interest in politics. I think it's crazy that a lot of young people are apathetic to political issues that may even have a direct affect on them. I probably still don't know as much as I should, but I try to keep up with the problems going on in our country and know how I stand on them.

Obviously, a big issue right now is the economy. The government needs to make some serious spending cuts in order to reduce the national debt. One thing that would really help the economy is repealing Obamacare. Besides that it is unconstitutional, we can't afford it. Obamacare will actually hurt job growth, which is the last thing we need considering our current unemployment rate. We could cut spending in a lot of other areas, but I think Obamacare is something that is really hurting us as a country.

I also care about most social issues. One of the most important to me being the issue of abortion. I'm extremely pro-life. I find it sickening how easy it is for someone to get an abortion in this country, and I hope one day that abortion will be illegal .

I'm against any kind of gun control legislation. The right to bear arms is a basic consitutional right and I don't understand why anyone would want to take away their own rights. There are always going to be people out there with guns no matter what laws are passed. Gun control laws only hurt the law-abiding citizen, the criminals could care less about the law and are still going to find a way to get one. The more people that own a gun and are able to protect themelves, the less gun crime there will be.

There a lot of other issues that are important to me but those were kinda the first things I thought of.

  1. I conform with your idea that Obamacare needs to be eliminated, because it is killing jobs. All of the republican, presidential candidates also agree with that, and say that is the first thing they will do if they become the next president. I agree that we need to make more spending cuts in order to help fix the economy. What spending cuts do you think we should make other than Obamacare? I also agree that criminals will get their hands on guns even if it is a law that they are not aloud to own them, because they already obviously do not care about the law.

  2. I want you to explain to me, Sam and Natalie, how Obamacare actually hurts jobs? Please? It sounds like you're repeating things without giving reasoning behind your ideas. I don't understand how socialized medicine is 'unconstitutional' either. I would love you to explain that as well.

I am a guy, so I won't have an opinion on abortion, but I do have a question. What about abortion in the case of rape, incest, or potential death for the mother?

Guns fighting guns. Protection guns by owning guns. Is gun ownership necessarily protection?

  3. The funny thing is Obamacare actually does hurt jobs. Just because people don't agree with your opinions does not mean they don't know what they're talking about. Many small businesses will not be able to afford to cover employee's health insurance, making them hire fewer people. Also, it creates a disincentive for people to work as they will not have to worry about affording health care. It is unconstitutional because it forces people to enter contracts against their will. There is no option to opt out of it. Socialized medicine goes against everything we are supposed to stand for as a country. I don't even wanna get into how stupid I think that idea is. As for abortion, it is still wrong in cases of rape and incest. However, I do think it is okay in the case that the mother is likely to die if she goes through the pregnancy.

Gun ownership is obviously protection. If you were about to rob someone and you found out they had a gun, would you REALLY still try and rob them?

  5. Sam: I don't think that Obamacare would be the reason why workers don't get hired. Companies don't hire people because hiring people is expensive, they don't hire because there isn't a need for the business to expand. A lack of demand has to do with companies not hiring, not expenses. They can indeed play a role, but predominantly the reason for a business not hiring is that there is not enough of whatever they do/make being bought. The job situation is a lack of demand, not business expense.

There is no disincentive to not work under healthcare. People still need to afford homes, cars, food, clothes, etc... having universal healthcare won't keep them from wanting to work. If health care was the only expense anyone ever had to pay, then yes, that would be a disincentive to work. Universal health care is a system which provides a fundamental and basic service to a person. Also I noticed you wrote: 'worry about affording health care.' If you worry about affording something, it implies you are struggling to pay for something. That's sounds like the opposite of laziness.

You are in a 'forced' contract to be educated in some way by the government. Is that unconstitutional? Universal healthcare is making sure everyone is insured. Who wouldn't want that? What could be wrong with it? "goes against we are supposed to stand for in this country " Uhhh.. that is a bit .. haha .. not such a great comment. I don't think I'm unamerican for believing in socialism. I think socialism is a proven success. Look at Europe's health care systems. They are the best in the world. The best in the world.. and its universal healthcare... of course it doesn't work.
